Behavior characteristics of Autism can be seen in a child before he or she turns the age of three. There are quite a lot of dysfunctional behavioral aspects noticed in the child that are considered to be clear signs of this brain development disorder.

It is important to have an autism behavior checklist when the parents start noticing that the child is unable to speak even when he or she has turned almost three.

At times there are non-speech vocalizations and one can notice babbling as well. The child tries to communicate with his parents with the help of unusual gestures and is non-responsive many times. An autistic child will appear to have a lot of difficulty in understanding the concept of “I” and “you” and will often confuse these pronouns as well as confuse other words.

Behavior Characteristics of Autism

Before starting to tell autism symptoms I want to introduce an important book, titled “Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew”. This is the best seller book that you can find easily on Amazon. Parents, teachers, therapists, social workers, the psychiatric nurse can be benefited from this book. So, I think you can collect this book from the above link.

Communication problem

Children who are victims of autism never try to communicate with other children or even mix with other children and therefore they become socially inactive. They rarely respond to others and almost never make eye contact.

These children hate to be touched and sometimes treat other people like non-living objects. Some of the children even show extreme aggressiveness, hyperactivity towards others which can be a little dangerous at certain points.

Self-injurious behavior

Autistic children develop a tendency to injure oneself and this one is very serious as well as a frequent problem which most parents find very difficult to deal with. This self-injurious behavior can tend to be life-threatening but can also be mild as this vary from individual to individual.

It is often said that this particular aspect of autism is closely related to repetitive behaviors. These may include occasional contact with a hard surface while the child is rocking constantly or nail picking. Among other such self-injurious behaviors fall the frequent biting of one’s own armor violently banging the head to a surface.

Diverse reactions

These children display very different reactions to sensory stimuli, for instance, they usually hate a certain type of sounds and noises. They dislike being touched by just about anybody and also develop a dislike for certain types of food. They tend to walk into things and are often non-responsive which is a sign of the developmental disorder.

Many of the children tend to walk on tip-toes and this probably is caused by motor problems as they also tend to have poor motor planning and poor muscle tone.

Repetitive behavior

Repetitive behavior is a very common symptom of autism and most autistic children display this sort of behavior. This behavior can be self-injurious as the child keeps on repeating an action that might hurt him or her.

The child can be very obsessive as to how the furniture is to be kept and refuses to take it in any other position.

The repetitive behavior can involve the performance of the child meaning that he or she will want to do the same thing every single day and in the same way. They have a tendency to flap their hands or keep on rocking which is called stereotype behavior.
