As part of my work in the Bangladesh Mental Health sector, I frequently work with people struggling with their mental health. Many of them are in a very desperate situation and are unaware of any way out. Others cannot accurately describe the problem they are having, so it is hard to determine where to start. Also, Bangladesh Mental Hospitals have a shortage compared to mental health-seeking people.
Mental Health Condition in Bangladesh:
In a country like Bangladesh, the mental healthcare industry is largely unorganized. However, making the right connection with the right people can help you find the right people to help you. If you can find the right people at the right places, then you can make huge strides in the right direction to find the right treatment.

Stigma and Discrimination in Mental Health in Bangladesh:
Mental health problems are a reality in many people’s lives every day. While it is true that not all mental health problems are created equally, there are still discrimination and stigma issues that need to be addressed. In addition, mental health problems vary widely in severity, making it difficult for people to understand how to best support themselves.
However, there are some common concerns about mental illness—such as whether a person is “crazy” and if they should be locked up—that all people who struggle with mental illness are forced to deal with.
Some people do not aggress to take their mental health support from professional psychiatrists or psychologists. Rather they take treatment from “OJJA.” This is because they believe Jinn and Pori make their unhealthy condition.
Stigma and discrimination against mental health affect the lives of millions of people worldwide, but there is limited research into how it affects these individuals. As a healthcare provider, my goal is to contribute to this research by exploring how stigma and discrimination affect my patients’ mental health.

The Dhaka Mental Hospital, founded in 1875, is the oldest in Dhaka. It was set up as a place to provide mental health care in the country but has been renamed several times and, at one time, was called the Dhaka Lunatic Asylum. Who Can Come to a Mental Hospital:
Mental health is essential for our existence, but it is a largely misunderstood subject. In the United States, 1 in 5 adults has a diagnosable mental illness, yet only 10% receive treatment. For this reason, many have taken to the internet to raise awareness of mental health and advocate for equality of mental health.
People who need treatment often find themselves at a mental hospital or similar institution. But what sort of people are allowed to come to mental hospitals?
People who are vulnerable to their mental illness or suffering from severe mental issues like schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar mood disorder, etc., can take mental health services by staying at the rehabilitation center or hospital. Also, people suffering from less severe mental illnesses like anxiety, phobia, depression, PTSD, tension, pressure, etc., can take regular psychological treatment.
Originally, mental hospitals were places where the mentally ill were sent for treatment and rehabilitation. They were designed to be places of safety, security, and comfort. Today, they are often the last place the mentally ill want to go.
The reasons for this are varied: some patients are scared of the place, some don’t want to be treated, and others are not ready to take their medication. So the question is if the mentally ill want to get better, why are they not able to?
