What is OCD?

Effects of OCD in Bangladesh
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) may be a severe and debilitating mental disorder that causes severely impaired quality of life. The target of the study was to assess the standard of lifetime of the patients affected by Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
Using a purposive sampling technique, a cross-sectional study was wasted from January 2011 to June 2011 among 46 patients who attended the National Institute of psychological state Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Most respondents (71.7%) were male, 63.0% were unmarried, and 34.8% were students.
Patients were least satisfied with the social domain, and those with only obsession had a lower mean score (23.54±1.80) in the environmental field than those with obsession and compulsion (25.15±3.70).
OCD patients having major conflict (52.2%) were least satisfied with the environmental health domain, and patients affected by OCD for quite ten years (78.3%) had low scores than those suffering for fewer than ten years (21.7%) overall quality of life domain.
Patients having strained kinship (34.8%) were less satisfied with the psychological health domain, and patients getting medication (91.3%) had a better quality of life altogether domains than those getting no prescription (8.7%).
Treatment for Each Type of OCD
Psychotherapy can help recover some people avoid the disruptive behaviors linked to obsessive-compulsive Disorder (OCD). In addition, aIn addition, a replacement study suggests that brain scans can help spot those patients for whom the therapy will be best.
The treatment is named cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). It works by gradually placing patients in controlled situations exposed to anxiety-causing stimulation to learn to deal better with these situations.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy is very effective in many cases. However, the treatment is costly, time-consuming, difficult for patients, and unavailable in many areas of Bangladesh.
